sloaneohno: sloaneohno: I’d like to announce BATTLES WITHOUT HONOR AND HUMANITY, a yakuza-eiga inspired art show! It will be held at Floating World Comics here in Portland, OR, September 15th from 6 - 8PM! This exhibition will be based loosely around yakuza/crime noir films by directors such as Akira Kurosawa, Takeshi “Beat” Kitano, Takeshi Miike, Kinji Fukasaku, Seijun Suzuki, Yukio Mishima, Sogo Ishii and Shinya Tsukamoto. As a genre, yakuza films are divided into two subsets: ninkyo-eiga or “chivarly films” featuring honorable outlaws caught between duty and compassion. Then there is jisturoku-eiga, the modern yakuza films which feature the stifling brutality of a life of crime. The artists and writers in this show will explore and pay homage to this powerful and unique genre. In addition, Jason has arranged for the Hollywood Theater to show a screening of Branded To Kill one night only right after the opening night of the art show at 9:30! So plan accordingly because it’s going to be an awesome night! This poster is drawn & designed by the ever-rad Logan Faerber whose amazing body of work I definitely recommend to check out.
