Here’s my piece for Sloane’s amazing Yakuza-themed art show, “Battles Without Honor and Humanity”. After the show, there will be a screening of Seijun Suzuki’s Branded to Kill playing at Portland’s oldest movie theater, and I agreed to do the poster for it. The kanji in the center of the piece means ‘number one’, because all of the assassins in this world are ranked. Hanada, our main guy, is ranked number three, and Killer Number One may not even exist… !… ? It’s like stream of consciousness sports manga, for contract killers, from 1967. It is GREAT.
